Paul J. Hudson

Project Overview

I worked with author Paul J. Hudson to create a visual identity that communicated his intersecting interests in healthcare and missions. I then extended this identity to a cover design for his book, Healthcare and the Mission of God: Finding Joy in the Crucible of Ministry.

The book cover design combined an image of the staff of Aesculapius, the predominant symbol for medicine and health care, with a cross—the primary symbol of the Christian faith. The juxtaposition of these symbols illustrates one of the central themes of the book—the tension between healthcare and faith/missions.

Client Feedback

It was a delight to work with Elisabeth to bring my author brand and book cover to life! From the start, it was not just about the form but the substance. She asked good questions like, “What do you want the designs to communicate?” and “What emotions do you expect people to have when they connect with your work?” She didn’t have an easy task because I wasn’t always sure of the answers. But she walked with me through the process patiently and systematically. The end result was delightful because we were able to journey together. If you need to bring some life and sparkle to your work, journey with Elisabeth Kvernen.
